A Night of Celebration and New Beginnings

The Uxbridge Fair AGM, held on the evening of January 25, 2024, at the Seniors Centre on Marietta St., was a significant and heartwarming event that marked both reflection on past achievements and anticipation for the future. The meeting began promptly at 7:30 pm, but the doors were opened earlier at 6:45 pm, welcoming members to settle their membership dues and mingle before the official proceedings.

A Tribute to Outgoing Directors

The night was filled with gratitude and recognition for the outgoing Directors, whose dedication and hard work have been instrumental in the success and growth of the Uxbridge Fair. Their commitment to excellence has set a high standard and inspired the Fair community to aim for greater heights. The contributions of these exceptional individuals were highlighted, and they were praised for their unwavering service.

Welcoming New Leadership

In a significant moment of transition, the AGM witnessed the introduction of two new Directors to the Uxbridge Fair Board: Hailey Ashton, and Rachel Hendy.  And a welcome return of Kate Johnson. Their addition promises fresh perspectives and renewed energy in steering the Fair towards new achievements. Additionally, Mark Hendy was appointed as the First Vice-President for 2024, a role critical for the leadership and strategic direction of the Fair.

Celebrating Achievements with Awards

The evening was also an opportunity to celebrate individual achievements within the Fair community. Among the highlights was the presentation of awards, recognizing the hard work, creativity, and dedication of those who have made outstanding contributions. Unfortunately, Kate Assink, one of the evening’s honorees, could not attend. Despite her absence, she was awarded the prestigious OAAS Accomplishment Award, a testament to her significant contributions and achievements. John Park awarded  Emily Smith  ( absent) the Bernice D Park Memorial Volunteer of The Year Award for exceptional  service at the  2023 Fair.

A Look Forward

The AGM was about looking back and setting the stage for the year ahead. Discussions and decisions made during the meeting reflected a collective ambition to build on the positive momentum of previous years. The Fair’s leadership and community are poised to implement innovative ideas and initiatives to ensure the event continues to grow and thrive.

A Night to Remember

The AGM was a memorable occasion, marking a pivotal moment for the Uxbridge Fair. It was a night that celebrated the past, acknowledged the present, and looked forward to a bright future. Photos from the evening capture the spirit of camaraderie, pride, and enthusiasm that define the Uxbridge Fair community.

The 2024 Uxbridge Fair AGM was a testament to the strength and vitality of its community. As we move forward, the new Directors, alongside the returning board members, are committed to upholding the traditions that make the Fair a cherished event while embracing the opportunities that lie ahead. The journey towards the next Uxbridge Fair is already underway, promising to make it bigger, better, and more vibrant than ever.

Stay tuned for updates and announcements as we prepare for an exciting year ahead. Your continued support and participation make the Uxbridge Fair a remarkable celebration of community, agriculture, and achievement.

Welcome to the New Year at Uxbridge Fair

We hope you had a happy and peace-filled Christmas surrounded by loved ones!

Annual General Meeting Announcement

Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the Seniors Centre on Marietta St. While the meeting will begin at 7:30 pm, doors will open earlier at 6:45 pm for attendees to pay their membership dues, which remain at $10.00 per person. It’s important to note that only members in good standing—those who have paid their 2024 dues—will be eligible to vote in the elections of officers and directors.

Call for Director Nominations

Our constitution requires 18 directors in addition to the executive positions. Please note that candidates for an executive position must have served as a director for at least one year. We encourage you to nominate yourself or someone you know for a director’s position in 2024. Nominations in 2024 will qualify them for consideration for one of the vice-president positions in 2025.

Nomination Deadline

For those interested in being on the ballot, please submit your nominations in writing to the nomination committee by January 11, 2024, seven business days before the AGM.

Building on Positive Momentum

We aim to continue the positive momentum generated by our Fair over the last few years, thanks to the dedicated efforts of our current directors and executives and the transformative changes implemented. Your involvement and support are crucial for the Fair’s continued growth and success.

Contact Information for Inquiries

For any questions regarding the positions or the commitments involved in a director’s role, please get in touch with Bev Latva at 905 862-0966 or Angela Gonsalves at 905 862-2812. Alternatively, you can email us at secretary@uxbridgefair.ca, and Rick will assist with forwarding your inquiries.

Dear Uxbridge Fairgoers,

We’re thrilled to have you joining us for another year of fun, food, and fantastic activities. We have made a few changes to our policies to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience at the Fair. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

One of the key changes we’ve made is our new ‘No Backpack Policy’. Our main priority at the Uxbridge Fair is to ensure the safety of all our attendees. This policy aims to create a more secure and efficient environment for everyone. It’s a step in the right direction towards maintaining a delightful and worry-free atmosphere for all our fairgoers.

If you plan to bring a bag with you to the Fair, here are a few things to remember:

  1. No Backpacks: For us to keep our security checks quick and effective, backpacks will not be permitted on the fairgrounds. If you arrive with a backpack, you will be kindly asked to return it to your vehicle or leave it at home. We appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the safety and convenience of all attendees.
  2. Clear Stadium Bags: Clear stadium bags that allow the contents to be seen are welcomed. Clear bags make it easier for our security personnel to check the bags without opening them, ensuring quicker entry for you and everyone else.
  3. Other Bags and Large Purses: We understand that you may need to bring items for the day. While we encourage you to bring as little as possible, we understand some items are necessary. Please note, however, these bags may be subject to search at the entrance.
  4. Diaper Bags: We love seeing our littlest fairgoers! If you’re bringing an infant along, diaper bags are acceptable. We ask that the baby be present with you at the time of entry.

Our Uxbridge Fair team thanks you for cooperating with these new policies. They’re designed to help everyone have a fun, safe, and memorable time at the Fair. We can’t wait to see you and are looking forward to creating unforgettable memories together!

With cheer,

The Uxbridge Fair Team

Thank you so much for your support of the 2022 Uxbridge Fall Fair. Your generous contribution helped make the Fair a success and we had a record-breaking number of visitors through the gates with Elgin Park almost filled to capacity!

The Fall Fair is back September 8, 9, and 10, 2023, and once again we’re looking for the support of our sponsors to make this year’s fair the best ever.

The Fair Board has been working to confirm events and we’re pleased to confirm favourites including the midway, Tractor Pull, Demolition Derby, the Cruise In, and a full line-up of entertainment in the Bandshell.

Each year the Uxbridge Fall Fair attracts thousands of people to revel in the joys of living in an agricultural community. The generosity of local businesses, organizations and individuals makes this highly anticipated event possible. In fact, the Fair would not be possible without our community’s involvement and support.

Located at Elgin Park, this three-day event is filled with traditional fair activities including a demolition derby, tractor pull, agriculture displays, livestock demonstrations and exhibits, handicrafts, music and entertainment.

As a ‘not for profit’ event we have a budget of approximately $180,000. This is NOT financed by the Township of Uxbridge although they are very supportive. ALL MONIES are raised through sponsors, donations, a small grant, the gates, and a percentage payment from the midway.
We hope with your support this year’s 159th Fair will serve as a celebration of the spirit of community we’re so fortunate to have in Uxbridge.

Please click here for sponsorship form.

Sincerely,

The Sponsorship Committee

Barry Grant: Barry has been involved with the fair for well over ten years as a competitor, and then in 2012, he took over as the Chairman of the sheep show. Barry has worked very hard to build the show, and it is becoming busier every year. Last year he was approached by the local 4H Sheep club and asked if he could put in a 4H show, which he happily did, and it was a great success. So much so that it has become a regular part of the sheep show. Barry joined the Board of Directors in 2018 and is a very knowledgeable part of the team. We greatly appreciate all the time and effort that Barry puts in and would like to recognize him for his efforts.

Tom La Rue: Tom’s enthusiasm and  contribution to the sport of Truck and Tractor Pulling has been evident for decades. He has been an active member of our Truck and Tractor Pull track team for many years. Through his love of the sport Tom has donated much of his  knowledge, time, equipment and materials to build our track  so that it is one of the best in our area and host to one of the most looked forward to Pulls every year.  Tom also has a very strong attention to safety for both the Pullers and the fans in the stands. The Uxbridge Fair would like to  recognize this quietly working behind the scenes gentleman with the Meritorious Award to show him our appreciation for everything he does.

Kyle Smith: Kyle is a most important part of our track crew team.  He is part of the prep crew that works for days before the fair getting the grounds and track ready  for both The Truck and Tractor Pull on the Friday night and the Demolition Derby on the Saturday night. Often the time involved starts after farm chores are finished and goes until 1 or 2 am the next morning when cleanup is finished and the track is ready for the next event later that day. When a piece of equipment was needed, no problem, Kyle built it!  When help is needed, no problem, Kyle is there.  When tractors or other machinery is needed they appear. In awarding Kyle with an  Honorary Life Membership we would like to show our appreciation for everything he does to make our fair a success!

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year is the season’s most cherished greeting. As we celebrate this blissful yet sacred time of year, we also turn our thoughts to the future, yearning for the prosperity and peace that will come with it. The Christmas season is one of the most inspiring and joyful celebrations we have.

It’s A Great Time To Take A Step Back And Reflect

The New Year is a great time to take a step back and reflect. This reflective period is the perfect opportunity for you to give yourself a pat on the back, so to speak. Make sure that you take this time to think about your goals and what you want out of life. For many people, they find that they accomplish their New Year’s resolutions quite effortlessly by taking this time off from the hustle and bustle of everyday life to focus on themselves. You’ll be able to see the fruits of your labor from last year, consider what worked and what didn’t, and then set new goals for this upcoming year so that you can continue to grow in 2023.

It’s the New Year, So Let’s Celebrate!

The Uxbridge Scott Agricultural Society wishes you and your family a happy and safe holiday. We’ll see you in the new year.

2023 Annual General Meeting

Mark your calendar for the upcoming AGM in the new year. The agenda will include election of directors, approval of the annual report, and discussion of new initiatives for the coming year.

Date: January 31, 2023
