Uxbridge Fair Society Charts Course for 2025 at Annual General Meeting
Meeting Highlights and Recognition
The Uxbridge-Scott Agricultural Society held its Annual General Meeting on January 30, 2025, marking a significant evening of recognition, transitions, and planning for the upcoming year. The meeting, which took place at the Uxbridge Senior’s Center , covered essential business matters and celebrated outstanding contributions to the agricultural community.
A significant highlight of the evening was the formal acknowledgment of the prestigious award to the Uxbridge Fair for 160 year of achievement presented by the Honourable Rob Black to the Uxbridge-Scott Agricultural Society in February 2024. President Rob Ashton took the opportunity to revisit this significant achievement at the Society’s first annual meeting since receiving the honour.
Awards and Achievements
The Society proudly recognizes several individuals for their exceptional service. The Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (OAAS) Accomplishment Awards were bestowed upon Lori-Ann Bacon and Mac Boadway. President Rob Ashton presented Gerrit Herrema on Behalf of our amazing Track crew with the Bernice D. Park Memorial—Uxbridge Fair Volunteer of the Year Award.
Bev Latva recognized Marilyn Burch with the OAAS Meritorious Service Award pin and certificate . This prestigious honour acknowledges individuals who have demonstrated long-time dedicated service to their Agricultural Society. This award is given to Recipients that have made significant contributions as volunteers, leaders, or committee members and are recognized as essential individuals without whom agricultural societies would be greatly diminished.
Looking Ahead to 2025
Looking ahead to 2025, the Society announced its theme for the upcoming fair: “Kids At the Fair – Everywhere.” The meeting included the ratification of a revised constitution, previously approved by the Board of Directors in September 2024, and passed a resolution to waive the annual audit requirement. Members also reviewed the Treasurer’s Report and the 2025 budget.
Board and Leadership Updates
In a demonstration of strong community engagement, the Society welcomed 16 Board members, nine of whom serve two-year terms. The 2025 Board of Directors includes a mix of returning and new members, ensuring continued strong leadership for the organization.
The evening also marked a significant transition in leadership roles. While Rob Ashton continues as President and Bev Latva as Past President, the Society welcomed Debra Stratton as the new Secretary, taking over from Rick Hannah, whose long-standing service and dedication were acknowledged with gratitude. Dave Dickie continues his role as Manager, and Diane Batty serves as Treasurer.
Moving Forward
The meeting concluded with the designation of signing officers, setting a positive tone for the upcoming year of agricultural celebration and community engagement in Uxbridge.
