The Uxbridge Fall Fair contributes to a sense of community in our town because every weekend after Labour Day the people of Uxbridge know and look forward to going to Elgin Park for a weekend of food, fun, events, animals, rides, and meeting your neighbours. It starts Friday night. Everyone is out at the fair, seeing people, enjoying the tractor pull, the buildings and the food. For the farmers, this is the night to show off their tractors. People who have grown up in Uxbridge go to hear the familiar voice of Trevor Cox (and in years past Gary Hill), who remind us why we love our town and our farmers. They joke and make us all laugh while we cheer on our neighbours and friends. I watch and cheer for Wayne Rynard, who’s been pulling his tractor for over 60 years and was born in Uxbridge Township. We come together as a community to watch our rural roots enjoy each other’s company. Saturday comes – the horse shows, goat shows, 4H dairy cow shows are big ticket items that the community members come to watch. People who have lived in Uxbridge their entire lives come to see old friends and new people to Uxbridge come to see and learn Uxbridge’s history. Everyone smiles and gets along. The rides and food booths keep us busy and full. The barns are full of flowers, vegetables, pictures and crafts – made from Uxbridge people. The community members are excited to show off their prized exhibits. Then there’s the Demolition Derby – the main event – tons of Uxbridge people come to watch and participate. Sunday is the Baby Show, the poultry show, the beef cattle show and the heavy horse pulls. Again, lots of community members are out for the day. Although Sunday is a sad but sweet day, as it’s the last day of the Fair for another 362 days. The Uxbridge Fall Fair brings together so many people who live in town and in the rural parts of the Township. They come to say hi to each other and to enjoy what our town has to offer. I think the Fall Fair is something every Uxbridge person looks forward to and gets excited about. It’s one weekend once a year that brings together everyone in our community. Everyone is excited and happy and proud to tell others we live in Uxbridge and that our Fall Fair is one of the best. That’s a sense of community!
